Part B – Question 4

Now you are going to apply what you have learned in class. As per the class discussion, please provide me with three different headlines for the story (article in Question #3) and outline your reasoning(s) and explanation for each. Please ensure you base your answer on the different elements of headlines we spoke about in class. Please go into detail for each. (12 Marks)

My first new headline would be “How Canadians are harnessing US tariffs to their advantage”. Although not quite the same play on emotion, I believe it represents the content well and utilizes a similar question-based headline format as the original headline.

My second headline would be “The way Canada is fighting back against US tariffs”. Knowing how the article answers this statement and fully explains all the methods, it does a great job representing the content it describes. Someone who may click on the article with the expectation of learning the ins and outs of the headline’s statement would have their questions answered before long.

My third headline would be “American businesses are in trouble… and Canadian consumers are proving it”. While adding more personality in the way the headline is written, it leaves the reader with more questions than answers. I wouldn’t expect a headline such as this from the New York Times, but I believe this headline to be intriguing to investigate from the perspective of someone who might not know very much on the subject matter.
