For question #2, what did you do differently from the original post? Please outline, explain and justify what you changed & why. Essentially, what did you learn from this new topic and what did you change and why. (8 Marks)
Between my original and reworked business introduction post, the main difference was in the length and writing complexity of my content. When originally creating my introduction post, I wanted to be mindful of my audience and use approachable language. After learning about Plain English writing, I understood that some of my approachable writing wasn’t as simple as I had desired, and rewriting some of my sentences to simplify would be the only way around my problem. Alongside shortening the content in my introduction post and adhering to the F-pattern as I wrote, I used language that would be better suited for my target audience; people who are in need of help with personal or event planning, but also want to learn from my business to more effectively plan for themselves.
As I learned about Plain English writing, the topic helped me understand that the language used by an audience is the most important thing to consider when creating messaging or content directed towards that audience. Overcomplication makes your audience feel lost and out of touch, while oversimplification would make your audience feel undervalued or underappreciated. Plain English writing is the balance of these two potential results, where you must create a style, tone and level of messaging that is perfectly suited to your audience.
